Dear Middleton Friends,
Middleton was founded in 1863, however, it wasn’t until 47 years later that the Village incorporated as a City on April 20, 1910. This makes the 100th Anniversary of City Government in Middleton. Mayor Thurber and the City Council are working in conjunction with the newly formed Centennial Committee and the Middleton Unplugged Committee and are planning a Centennial Celebration which will be held on April 10, 2010.
As part of this celebration, many activities are being planned on this day, as well as events throughout the month as part of the Middleton Unplugged. A Time Capsule is also being put together and some of the items we would like to have included will be essays from former or current community residents. We have many families in our area, who have a least three generations of Middletonites, we would especially love to have each of those generations submit esays. The theme is: Through the Generations “What Middleton has meant to me”.
We would like for you to encourage your family members and friends to each submit their views. If you have a special memory of Middleton with a photo to go with it, submit the photo, please include a photo of the essay writer as well. Identify any or all people and places in the photo. Limit essay to no more then 700 words. Include also your first and last name, how long , and when you lived in Middleton or the surrounding area, or you connection to the city, if you work here or have any ties to our community and want to be included. If you want photos returned, please include your mailing address. The Middleton Unplugged calender has set aside Family Essay Night on April 6, all essays must be submitted by the April 7 deadline to be included in the book.
Essays will be judged by the Centennial Committee with prizes awarded to the top three essays. All essays will be compiled into a book, and the wining essays will be published in the Middleton Gazette. Help us make this memorable book to pass on to generations to come.
