Welcome to the Middleton Rural Fire District (MRFD) Website.
MRFD was founded in 1958, and proudly serves the community of Middleton, Idaho and surrounding areas. Middleton is a unique rural community that offers a rare quality of life. Nestled in the Treasure Valley with two mountain ranges in full view, Middleton boasts a mild climate with four seasons. Middleton is one of the fastest growing communities in Idaho, yet continues to offer a “small town” feeling for those who live here.
Middleton is within easy commuting distance of large industries, and is surrounded by agricultural land. Highway 44 passes through town, providing easy access to I-84 (3 miles to the west) and to Boise, the State Capitol (20 miles to the east). The Treasure Valley offers a complete line of shopping and cultural activities. Residents of Middleton enjoy the country life in the great outdoors with the Boise River passing just south of town, close access to BLM ground, Bogus Basin, Tamarack, and other popular ski resorts just an hour away. Our residents enjoy some of the best hunting, fishing, mountain biking, kayaking, camping and river rafting in the United States.
Middleton thrives on agriculture and related industries. Farmers produce a variety of crops such as potatoes, sugar beets, grains, corn, mint, hops, beans, commercial nursery stock. Irrigation water is supplied from the Boise River and the Payette River.
MRFD is a combination department with 9 career staff and 30 reserve staff. Our professional staff of Firefighters/EMT’s provide, fire and emergency services from two fire stations which covers approximately 110 square miles and a population of 18,000 residents. With the growth of the response district over the past few years MRFD responds to 950 emergency services request annually.
As a Rural Fire District MRFD is a “special taxing district” in the state of Idaho, fire districts are governed by an elected Board of Commissioners. The district receives a portion of the taxes collected by the county to be used to finance the district’s operations. As a result, there is no further cost to our resident for any emergency services provided by MRFD. (excluding permits and inspection fees)
Fire District Board Meeting are held the 2nd Tuesday of every month at Middleton Fire Station 1. Board Meeting are open to the public and we strongly encourage the members of the community attend to take part and have a voice in the services we provide.
