- Citizens within the boundaries of the Middleton Rural Fire District contact DEQ for Air Quality Report prior to burning.
- All regulations listed below must be followed while in the boundries of the Middleton Rural Fire District.
- Outdoor burning is allowed from sunrise to sunset. All outdoor burning must be extinguish prior to sunset.
What Cannot be Burned
- Garbage
- Lumber or Preservative treated wood
- Dead animals or animal waste
- Pathogenic Waste
- Junk motor vehicles or parts
- Hazardous Waste
- Tires or rubber materials
- Insulated wire
- Plastic
- Trade waste (construction or demolition waste, or any material resulting from operation of any business)
What Can Be Burned
Allowable forms of open burning cannot include prohibited items.
Recreational Warming fires: Fires for preparation of food, campfires, and BBQ are allowable, as are small fires for hand warming.
Residential Yard Waste: Leaves, grass clippings and branches on the property where they were grown.
Paper and Cardboard: Only if house to house garbage service is not available.
Weed Control Fires: Fires for weed abatement along fence lines, ditch banks, and canal banks.
Prescribed Burning: Open Burning of forest and rangeland to accomplish land management objectives is allowed.
Training Fires: Fires to train fire fighters are allowed.
Crop Residue Burning: Growers may burn Crop Residue in accordance with the CRB Permit – by-Rule Program.
Required to contact DEQ before any burning occurs; size does not matter. Must Obtain a permit from DEQ.
- Whole Fields
- Pastures
- Spots within a field or pasture
- Broken bales in the field that they were generated during the time of harvest
- CRP lands
- Food Plots
- Blanching or flaming operations
